i dreamt it was july 14th,
many years from now
the whole world was a loaded weapon
the day we all found out
the old woman was raining clean
all things with a tearful warning
she used pine needles to sew the night closed
with the threads of morning
we stood in a concrete garden
and watched the flower statues sway
laughed ‘till we were tired from crying,
layed in open fields all day
skyscrapers were filled with children
watching as the sun went down
on the day that we all found out
the trees put all their hands in the air
said “it is now our turn”
they sent up a smoke signal
burn forest fire burn
puppets hanging from wooden crosses
danced their strings away
the card tower would not fall down
but all its hearts were swayed
ten branches became our fingers
the forests opened up their gates
the sun showered its written record
from the empty open page
mouths forming the words of meaning
silenced every other sound
on the day that we all found out
night came with the breath of winter
off the chest of the frozen lake
we built a campfire on the rocks
a wooden coffin set to burn
its smokey climb towards the sky
to house the death of that day’s sun
the half moon was a sideways smile
laughing in the sky
we sat on the beach together,
the hour glass poured out its sand
eyes opened like newborn torches,
burning as we warmed our hands
skyscrapers were filled with children
